Privacy Policy

AuraFret (formerly Guitar Companion) is a local-first Android application published by DJ Apps Studio. It has no account, analytics, advertising, cloud synchronization, or audio-upload feature. The app does not sell personal information. Google Play processes subscription transactions as described below.

Microphone and audio

The app requests microphone access only after the user chooses Start Listening, Start Recording, or Start Tuning.

Local data

Learned-song profiles, unsaved recovery drafts, song-map corrections, appearance and practice preferences (including up to 50 saved-song resume positions, speeds and difficulty choices), agreement acceptance, self-reported Learning Path milestone/checklist progress and last viewed lesson, and practice-history metadata are stored locally on the device. A practice-history entry may contain a name, date, mode, duration, chord names, and confidence-qualified key, tempo, or capo estimates. History does not retain Live/Tuner microphone audio, imported-audio content, file paths, or URIs.

Developer builds may write bounded chord and prediction timing metadata to the local Android diagnostic log for testing. These logs contain no raw audio, user names, or audio-file paths and are not uploaded; release builds do not emit these timing records.

Analysis probabilities are transient unless a bounded debug diagnostic is explicitly part of a local debug profile. A saved learned song may retain one possible alternative chord identity for an untouched medium-confidence segment; it does not retain the source frame probabilities for that alternative.

Android Auto Backup is disabled for the application, so this app data is not backed up through Android's automatic cloud-backup mechanism.

Optional Google Play app updates

AuraFret can check for app updates while Home or Settings is visible and idle. Google Play processes device metadata, the installed application version, and installed module/asset-pack information to determine availability and download size under its own terms. The app does not send microphone audio, songs, lesson progress, history or recordings to this service. Google Play requires connectivity; a failed update check does not prevent local tools from working.

Update prompts are optional. Google Play asks for confirmation before a flexible update downloads. The app asks you to restart only through an explicit Restart to update action on an idle screen; it does not force updates during recording or playback. Choosing Later stores only the offered version code and a local timestamp to hide that version's reminder for 24 hours. These bounded preferences are separate from songs, purchases and agreement acceptance, are excluded from song ZIP exports, and are removed with app data. Settings allows a manual check despite a deferred reminder. The app creates no push notifications or update server.

User-controlled song backup

Settings can export saved song maps, edits and retained recordings to an unencrypted ZIP at a location you select through Android's document picker. The selected document provider may upload or synchronize that file under its own policy. AuraFret itself does not upload it. Export is optional and available without subscription access. Protect that ZIP and delete external copies separately; deleting a song in the app does not delete an exported copy.

Restore adds absent song IDs and preserves existing songs. Backups exclude unfinished drafts, imported-file permissions, history, learning progress, preferences, agreement acceptance and subscriptions. Restore purchases remains a separate Google Play access check. Working restore files are temporary and removed when the operation completes; process interruption can leave temporary cache files until Android clears the cache.

Permissions and network access

The packaged app declares RECORD_AUDIO and com.android.vending.BILLING. It does not package broad storage, Internet, network-state, wake-lock, notification, or microphone foreground-service permissions. All core analysis runs on the device. Google Play handles network communication for billing and optional app updates through its service.

Google Play subscriptions

Purchases use your Google Play account; no separate AuraFret login is required. Google Play processes payments under its terms and privacy policy. AuraFret receives product/offer information, purchase state and purchase tokens to check access and acknowledge purchases. It does not receive your payment card details or upload recordings, song maps or practice history to Play. Billing tokens and entitlement evidence are held in memory, not logged or saved by application code. Google Play and its billing components may process transaction/service diagnostic information as part of providing billing.

Orientation completion is stored locally. An old installation marker from testing builds, if present, is ignored and is not a trial clock. Google determines trial eligibility. A successful check can support access through a temporary outage for at most 24 hours in the same process; process restart requires a new Play check. Check failure is not treated as confirmed cancellation. The app cannot independently determine exact expiry or all server-side lifecycle changes.

Restore purchases restores access associated with the Play account, not local songs, recordings or history. The app has no automatic cloud backup. Settings offers explicit saved-song ZIP export and restore. Expiry does not delete local content; saved results, history and deletion remain available. Uninstalling can remove local data but does not cancel a subscription. Manage or cancel through Google Play, available from Settings and subscription options.

Authorized review access

Authorized evaluators can enter a reusable review code in Subscription options to access the same tools without a purchase or free trial. Only its verified SHA-256 digest is saved in app-private preferences; the entered code is not retained, logged or uploaded. This access has no time or location limit, survives app restart, and can be turned off on the same screen. It is excluded from song backups and removed with app data on uninstall. It does not create, change or cancel a Google Play subscription.

Deletion and control

Users can rename or delete individual practice-history entries, clear practice history after confirmation, discard an unsaved learned-song draft, and delete saved learned songs. Discarding a new draft or deleting a saved learned song also removes its app-owned retained reference recording. Uninstalling the app removes its app-private data according to Android's application-data behavior.

Musical estimates

Chord, key, tempo, beat, likely-next-chord, capo, and strumming outputs are estimates and can be delayed, incomplete, or wrong. This policy describes data handling; it does not guarantee analysis accuracy.

Support and privacy questions

For support, privacy questions or data requests, contact DJ Apps Studio at support.djapps@gmail.com. If you contact us outside the app, we receive the email address, message and attachments you choose to send. We use that correspondence to respond and retain it as needed for your request and applicable legal obligations. Our email provider processes that correspondence separately from local app data. You can request deletion of support correspondence, subject to those obligations. Do not send recordings or payment details with your initial inquiry. Use the app's local deletion controls for data held only on your device.

This policy website

The public website is separate from the Android app. It has no analytics scripts, advertising scripts, forms, third-party embedded media players or browser storage. Its app screenshots and optional feature-preview video are served by the same GitHub Pages site. The video does not autoplay and is configured not to preload its audio/video file; starting playback or downloading it requests that public file from the host. GitHub Pages processes visitor connection information, including IP addresses, for hosting and security under its privacy statement, linked in the website footer. Visiting the site does not give it access to your recordings or local app records. External sites and email providers follow their own privacy policies.
