WristScribe User Agreement
Version 9 | Updated 6 October 2026
WristScribe: Voice Journal was previously called MemoKeeper. This is the same app and publisher. Version 9 explains optional automatic update checks; the reviewer access introduced in version 8 remains.
Welcome
WristScribe helps you keep journals on your Android phone and Wear OS watch. This agreement is between you and the publisher identified on WristScribe's Google Play listing. By choosing "I agree to the User Agreement", you accept these terms. You keep ownership of your journal content. Please use WristScribe lawfully and respect other people's privacy when using speech capture.
Speech and accuracy
WristScribe turns speech into text using an available Android speech-recognition service. It does not save microphone audio or provide audio playback. Transcription can contain mistakes or omissions. Speech, background noise, device capabilities and the recognition service can affect accuracy and availability. Check important names, dates, instructions and other information before relying on them. Speech capture may use a provider's online services, including for a selected recording language; the Privacy Policy explains this further. Phone Settings lets you choose separate phone and watch spoken languages and English-letter output. English-letter output converts recognized script locally to approximate Latin spelling, without translating the meaning; unsupported characters can remain. Available languages, model downloads and mixed-language accuracy depend on each device's speech service. Existing saved entries and typed text are not rewritten.
Your journals and local storage
The phone maintains all journals and journal creation. The watch keeps up to 20 unsynced text recordings and shows the latest pending recording. At capacity it stops accepting new recordings; it never automatically overwrites the oldest one. Transfers waiting for confirmation still occupy slots. A slot becomes free only after the phone confirms that exact recording was saved. Older unsynced content retained during an upgrade is preserved even if it exceeds this limit; new capture stays blocked until capacity is available.
Finish saves the visible text. Pause retains the session. Each app may keep one private recovery draft; Cancel/Discard clears that draft without creating an entry. Recovery is best effort and opens paused; recent words can be lost, and drafts older than seven days are removed when checked. No microphone audio is stored. Clearing app data, uninstalling, device failure or loss can remove local information. Keep separate backups of important journals.
Paired-device sync
New watch recordings sync through the Wear OS Data Layer only while phone Premium access is available. The phone assigns a recording to its selected journal when it first receives it; changing the selection before sync changes the destination of recordings still waiting. If no selected journal is available, the phone uses an available recent journal or creates one. A full journal can roll over into a new phone journal. Choose the destination in the phone journal using Use for incoming watch recordings. Phone captures and journal edits are local; they do not require a round trip through the watch.
Subscription expiry pauses new recording receipt. The watch can still capture until its 20-record queue is full. Reconnect with phone Premium active to resume sync. An acknowledgement for content already committed on the phone may still clear its matching watch slot after access ends. Connectivity, platform services and subscription checks can delay transfer. A Data Layer write or connection indicator does not prove delivery. Exact recording checksums and durable receipts prevent duplicate retries, including after phone edits or local deletion. Older whole-journal transfers and phone handoffs are retained only for upgrade recovery and use their original compatibility rules. Sync is not backup and does not rebuild deleted data.
Backup, restore and sharing
You can manually create and restore a WristScribe backup from the phone using Android's file picker. You choose a local destination or an installed document provider, which may include Google Drive. WristScribe has no automatic or developer-operated cloud backup service. Optional local reminders and the last-backup indicator help you remember to make a manual backup; they do not verify that a provider still retains the file, make backups for you, or guarantee recovery. Backup files are plaintext, not encrypted. Keep them somewhere you trust and check that a backup completed before relying on it.
Restore validates a supported backup and shows a preview before you choose merge or replace. Replace first makes a private emergency copy; that copy is on the same phone and is not protection against device loss or app-data removal. Interrupted operations, unavailable providers, damaged or incompatible files, user deletion and device loss may prevent backup or restoration. A backup may not include changes made after it was created. Share and export create copies controlled by the destination app or provider. Manage those copies separately.
Google Play subscriptions
Watch recording and viewing the latest pending recording are free; the watch has no subscription or purchase check. On the phone, WristScribe Premium is required to receive new watch recordings, create, append, rename, edit or favorite journals, and restore a manual backup. Reading, searching, sharing, exporting, making backups and removing local copies stay available without Premium. When access ends, existing content is preserved and new sync pauses; receipts for already saved content can still complete. Installing, updating, completing orientation or restoring a journal backup does not grant subscription access. Earlier test-build installation-access markers are no longer used.
For Google Play review, the publisher may provide a reusable reviewer code that enables the phone features and new watch recording receipt without purchasing a subscription or starting a trial. This review-only grant is stored locally on that phone installation, can be removed on the Premium screen, and does not create, restore, cancel or change a Google Play subscription. It is not included in journal backups or device transfer. Ordinary subscription access continues to follow Google Play.
Choose a monthly or yearly plan before confirming a subscription in Google Play. Prices, billing periods and eligible offers come from Google Play. A 15-day free trial is shown only when Google Play returns the configured eligible offer. If eligible, you will not be charged during the trial; unless you cancel, Google Play automatically charges the selected plan at the disclosed price after the trial and at each renewal. Without an eligible trial, the displayed paid terms apply immediately. Cancelling a purchase dialog does not start a trial. Installing or reinstalling WristScribe does not create a trial.
Cancel through Google Play's Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions to stop future renewals. If you cancel during the trial, you will not be charged for the following subscription period; access normally continues until the trial ends. After the trial, cancellation normally leaves access until the paid period ends. Uninstalling WristScribe does not cancel the subscription. Payment problems, refunds and revocations can affect access; Google Play provides authoritative account, renewal, cancellation and payment details.
The phone app checks subscription purchases on launch and return to the foreground. A temporary check failure is not proof of expiry. Previously confirmed access can continue for up to 72 hours on the same device boot, measured from the last successful Play query, while a fresh successful check can update or end access sooner. A device restart, clock rollback or expired allowance requires another check. Client APIs do not expose every lifecycle state or an authoritative expiration date, and may use Google Play's cache. Existing memos are not deleted when access ends.
Restore purchases restores access associated with the current Google Play account; it does not recover local journals. Use a previously created manual backup for data recovery. Only the phone queries subscription access. The watch does not need to restore a purchase. An existing WristScribe subscription provides the phone premium features; no separate watch subscription is needed. Changing or updating the app does not cancel an existing Google Play subscription. No separate WristScribe account is required. There is no promise of subscription transfer to a future iPhone app.
App updates
Both apps can check a public release list over HTTPS while you use a non-recording screen. Automatic checks are enabled by default, normally at most daily, and can be turned off under App updates in phone Settings > About & Legal or watch Connection > Guide and legal. Manual checking remains available. The Privacy Policy explains the website connection and locally stored update preferences. A notice is not proof that a release is available to your Google Play account or region. Choose Open Google Play to check availability and install through Google Play. WristScribe does not silently install updates, force an update during recording or replace your saved journals. Google Play's separate auto-update setting remains under your control.
Availability and warranties
We aim to make WristScribe useful and reliable, but do not promise uninterrupted service, perfect transcription, successful transfer or recovery in every situation, or suitability for every purpose. Devices and third-party services can change or become unavailable. Except for rights, guarantees and remedies required by applicable law, we provide no additional warranty of availability, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. These limitations do not excuse failure to meet our legal obligations.
Responsibility and your rights
The publisher remains responsible for loss or damage where applicable law makes it responsible, including reasonably foreseeable loss caused by a breach of its obligations or failure to use reasonable care and skill. Where applicable law permits, the publisher is not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable or for business losses arising from use of this consumer journal app. There is no exclusion of liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot legally be limited.
Nothing in this agreement takes away your mandatory consumer rights, guarantees or remedies under applicable law, including rights relating to faulty digital content or services. Those rights take priority over any conflicting wording here.
Changes and contact
The current agreement and Privacy Policy are available on the phone under Settings → About & Legal. Material changes requiring renewed agreement use a new agreement version and ask for acceptance again. Accepting the current version is remembered on this phone; it is not requested on every launch. You can decline by closing the app; this does not delete your journals. For support or questions about these terms, use the publisher contact provided on WristScribe's Google Play listing.
